Events...

• Muskegon College gathering at Longstreet Monument. On October 17th, Mr. Casteel spoke on the artistic approach to produce the monument located in Gettysburg National Park.

• Gettysburg Area School District Art Teacher’s gathering at the Longstreet Monument. On October 11th, Mr. Casteel introduced the art teacher’s group to his life as a sculptor and what he experienced during the making of the monument.

•The 6th Maryland Vol. Inf. Monument was dedicated at Pamplin Park Petersburg VA on April 2, 2011. The 6th Maryland US, has the significant title as the “Breakthrough” unit that actually forced the Confederate line near Petersburg, Va. to collapse, thus causing the retreat to Appomattox with the surrender of southern forces afterwards.

•Mr. Casteel had the honor to speak on May 21st at the annual Confederate Memorial Day held by the Pvt. John Wesley Culp Memorial Camp, SCV at the Virginia State Monument, Gettysburg National Park. Mr. Casteel’s presentation was on the Virginia State Monument, its sculptor, and the sculpting of the monument from beginning to end.

•Doylestown, Pa. Civil War Roundtable. On June 7th, Mr. Casteel spoke to the roundtable on the Gen. James Longstreet Monument project from it’s beginnings to dedication and afterwards.

•On June 22nd Mr. Casteel and his family attended the opening reception of Echoes of the Past: The Civil War 150 Years Later. The Event was sponsored by Randolph County Community Arts Center, located in Elkins West Virginia, and features an exhibit of art by leading Civil War historical artists This exhibit will be on display from June 22nd until August 17th.

•Mr. Casteel recently attended History Meets the Arts in Gettysburg and shared past and present projects with those visiting “Pages of the Past”, a wonderful new historical bookstore located on York Street.

and Passion for Art and History

Mr. Gary Casteel, historical sculptor of The General James Longstreet Memorial at Gettysburg, the controversial President Jefferson Davis and Sons in Biloxi MS, Brothers temporarily on loan to the Virginia State Capital in Richmond, and the most recent monument to the US Colored Troops from Lexington Park Maryland, just a few of his more prominent projects, is available to speak to your group.

Mr. Casteel has often been referred to as a story teller par excellence. His ability to draw the listener into a web of excitement through a story line he creates from experience and the heart, not a hastily prepared page, is well known. His passion for his work, historical art, and preservation are his foremost topics. He speaks regularly to Roundtables, Historical Societies, art teacher’s organizations, civic clubs and gives guided tours of the Gen. James Longstreet Monument at Gettysburg, a monument he sculpted and erected in 1998.

• Oct. 21, 2011, Pennsylvania State Art Teachers Association (PAEA), Wyndam Hotel, Gettysburg, PA- Mr. Casteel will be speaking on his experiences as a professional sculptor as well as his various past projects.

• 2013 - Painting Exhibit at the new Adams County Arts Center on York Street Gettysburg PA- The exhibit will feature over a dozen original landscape paintings, in watercolor completed in his own unique sculptural style, of the Gettysburg National Park. Mr. Casteel has said many times that, “I sculpt for a living but paint for fun”. We believe you will enjoy the exhibition as much as Mr. Casteel has creating the paintings.
